I have had the pleasure of piercing for almost a year now, as an apprentice, learning under the lovely Joe. Needless to say it's been the best year of my life to date.
I had the privilege of being in the right place at the right time when I came across the opportunity to work in Old Fort.
I popped in one day to acquire a nostril piercing and Joe mentioned, albeit lightheartedly, that he was on the hunt for an apprentice.
I shamelessly slided into his dm's on Instagram and made my interest extremely known.
After a round of interviews I secured the position, and here we are.
The piercing industry was never really on my radar in regards to an occupation.
I had only known a life that entailed school, college, a 9-5 profession, a mortgage, a family, and if I was lucky enough, an early retirement.
How Clodíagh got into piercing
Once I was "old enough" to decide what career path I wanted to walk I applied for college, young and naive, but stubborn nonetheless.
Piercing was never a job that I had the opportunity to consider, I was merely blessed to have walked into Old Fort on the day that I had. Although it had never been an occupation that had crossed my mind I can't imagine working in another field.
I have always found an unusual pleasure in being pierced, between the sterile process of it all to the aftermath. Catching myself in the reflection of a mirror and immediately recognising that I am a small bit cooler is such a gratifying experience.
Piercings Clodíagh is most excited to do
It's difficult to pin down one particular piercing and label it as my favourite, especially seeing as I have yet to have performed all of them.
However I am quite literally obsessed with facial piercings, from septums to bridge piercings.
Despite that, no matter the whereabouts of a piercing, I am of the belief that a great client has the power to change that.
There is simply something so innately beautiful about wanting to decorate the shells that we reside in.
I find such joy in customizing you ladies and gents, and I am forever in debt to all of you darling souls for the trust that you offer me daily.
